BISMARCK, N.D. – The State Historical Society of North Dakota, through an appropriation of Historic Preservation Fund money from the National Park Service, awarded $130,000 to six eligible organizations around the state. The grants, available to the public for use in restoration, stabilization, and protection of historic and archaeological properties, can be used only on properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The following are those organizations awarded grants, a brief description of the project, and the amounts received:
The homeowners of 1023 West Highland Acres Road in Bismarck received $12,000 for reshingling.
O.P.E.R.A. Inc. of Ellendale received $24,600 for the repairs of the west wall and sidewalk of the Ellendale Opera House.
North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department received $16,890 for window and door repairs of the Gunlogson Farmstead Historic Site in Cavalier.

The Casselton Heritage Center received $15,000 for the reporting and restoration of the exterior stonework on St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Casselton.
The granting of Historic Preservation Fund money is a competitive process. Applications are reviewed by a committee from the State Historical Society's Archaeology and Historic Preservation Department and rated based on four major categories: quality of the application; need for the development work; impact on the historic preservation program; and the project’s compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
