Dates Set for ND Heritage Center Openings

This photograph shows the Northern Lights Atrium, located on the east side of the North Dakota Heritage Center. When it opens its doors Sunday, September 1, 2013, it will become the main entrance to the newly expanded State Museum. This main entrance will provide a new opportunity to bring visitors to the state capitol complex from the busy adjacent highway, State Street, drawing travelers like a beacon, day and night.
Here is a timeline of some key dates for openings at the newly expanded North Dakota Heritage Center in 2013-14:
Sunday, September 1, 2013 – Soft opening of new front doors to the expanded North Dakota Heritage Center, including the Northern Lights Atrium, hallway exhibits, new Museum Store, James River Café, Great Plains Theater, Missouri River Events Center, Hub of History, Pembina River Plaza, and renovated Russell Reid Auditorium.
Friday and Saturday, October 11-12, 2013 – Opening of The Adaptation Gallery: Geologic Time, the first of the new galleries of the expanded North Dakota Heritage Center.
Winter 2013 – Opening of The Innovation Gallery: Early Peoples. Devoted to the native peoples of North Dakota, this gal
lery will highlight the beauty and breadth of the State Museum’s collections.
Fall 2014 – Opening of The Inspiration Gallery: Yesterday and Today. This gallery will explore the state’s recent history through thematic areas: Agricultural Innovation; Industry and Energy; Newcomers and Settlement; Our Lives, Our Communities; Conflict and War; and Cultural Expressions.
November 2, 2014 – Grand Opening of completed expanded North Dakota Heritage Center, in conjunction with the Celebration of North Dakota's 125th Anniversary of Statehood.
