$470,800 in Cultural Heritage Grants Awarded by State Historical Society

BISMARCK – The State Historical Society has awarded $470,800 in Cultural Heritage Grants for the coming biennium to 20 eligible organizations throughout the state. Cultural Heritage Grants provide grant funding to nonprofit organizations including local museums and historical societies as well as city, county, and tribal governments. Eligible projects include capital improvements, exhibits, special projects or events, education activities, and collections. The following are those organizations awarded grants, a brief description of their project, and the amounts they received: The Antler Historical Society, Antler, received $30,000 for the Antler Town Square building rehabilitation project. The Barnes County Historical Society, Valley City, received $8,000 for the Smithsonian "How We Worked" exhibit. The Belle Mehus Auditorium, Bismarck, received $50,000 for the carpet and brass railing replacement project. The Bismarck Historical Society, Bismarck, received $19,431 for the Bismarck Oral History Project. The Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland, received $26,525 for the church bell tower preservation project. Buxton in Bloom, Buxton, received $25,000 for the Historic Grue Church and Cultural Center foundation repair and electrical upgrade project. The Cass County Historical Society, West Fargo, received $26,614 for Bonanzaville's “Preserving a Legacy of North Dakota Farming” project. The Foster County Historical Society, Carrington, received $32,179 for the Putnam House exterior painting project. Friends of Wabek, Plaza, received $50,000 for the Wabek Consolidated School structural repair project. The Golden Valley County Historical Society, Beach, received $13,250 for the Sentinel Butte Congregational Church roof repair project. The Logan County Courthouse, Napoleon, received $30,000 for the Logan County Courthouse HVAC system upgrade project. Manfred History & Preservation, Manfred, received $3,740 for the bank/post office building ramp and exhibit project. The North Dakota Museum of Art, Grant Forks, received $15,000 for the permanent collection storage updates project. The Pioneer Trails Regional Museum, Bowman, received $2,794 for “The Romance of His Life: Theodore Roosevelt in Bowman and Slope Counties” exhibit. The Richland County Historical Museum, Wahpeton, received $3,676 for the museum security project. Remote Site Launch 3, Inc., Cavalier, received $22,668.50 for the Remote Launch Operations Building HVAC system project. Strengthen ND, Minot, received $8,000 for the “Prairie Roses: Stories of Women in North Dakota's History” project. The Traill County Courthouse, Hillsboro, received $ 45,000 for the entry steps restoration project. The Traill County Historical Society, Hillsboro, received $29,000 for the foundation and woodwork trim restoration and painting project. Viking Norwegian Lutheran Church of Viking, Maddock, received $30,000 for the steeple reroofing project. The State Historical Society of North Dakota identifies, preserves, interprets, and promotes the heritage of North Dakota and its people.
